Barbara J. Opferbeck

Beloved Mother & Grandma

Barbara Joan Opferbeck, age 76, of Crawford Street, Salamanca, NY died peacefully on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford, PA.

Born on May 14, 1935 in Salamanca, NY she was the daughter of the late Francis Leo & Frances Joan Wcisto Hannon. She was married on June 30, 1956 in the former St. Patrick's Church to Mr. Gerald "Ged" Harry Opferbeck who survives.

She graduated from Salamanca High School in 1953 and she attended Bryant & Stratton Business School in Buffalo, NY.

Mrs. Opferbeck was employed at Salamanca Central School District as a Lunch Monitor and Bus Aid retiring in 1990. Previously, she had been employed at Fisher's' Big Wheel for many years.

She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish and the former St. Patrick's Church. Barbara was a loving mother and an amazing grandmother. She loved every holiday and had the best decorations in the neighborhood. She loved holiday gadgets that shook, rattled and lit up. She was known as the queen of batteries. She was a lifetime member of the West End and cared deeply for many of her neighbors. She enjoyed sitting on her porch visiting with her family friends. Barbara was a caring loving woman who will never be forgotten.

Surviving besides her husband are: 3 daughters, Debra ( Mark) Arena, LaGrange, Georgia, Kimberly Opferbeck, Boston, NY, Jacqueline Opferbeck, Salamanca, NY; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by 2 brothers, James Hannon and Robert Hannon.

Friends may call at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday morning at 11 A.M. in Our Lady of Peace Parish with Rev. Patrick Melfi, pastor, as celebrant.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
