Elwood H. Taylor

Mr. Elwood H. Taylor, age 81, of 501 East State Street, Salamanca, New York died Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 88 River Street, Salamanca, New York following a long illness.

Born on July 31, 1926 in Dayton, New York he was the son of the late Lawrence and laPhamie Fargo Taylor. He was married to the former Arlene Woodin who predeceased him on March 5, 1996.

He was a veteran of the WWII serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp in North Africa.

Mr. Taylor had been employed as the Night Fireman at L.B. Norton's in Great Valley, New York for over 15 years prior to his retirement in 1992.

He was a former member of the First Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535 where he had served as Secretary, a member of the American Legion Bowling League for 26 years, and had served as Treasurer of the American Legion Golf League. He was a member of the Salamanca Bowling Association for 42 years and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2002.

Surviving are: 6 sons, Robert Taylor, 501 East State Street, Salamanca, New York, James (Linda) Taylor, Murray Avenue, Salamanca, New York, Lawrence (Lynn) Taylor, Avery Avenue, Salamanca, New York, Douglas (Janelle) Taylor, Allegany, New York, Daniel Paul (Pamela) Taylor Sr., Olean, New York, Richard Taylor, River Street Salamanca, New York; 2 daughters, Barbara (Joseph) Ferraro, Center St., Salamanca, New York, Cheryl Taylor-Bacelli, Cleveland Ave., Salamanca, New York; 17 grandchildren; 22 great granchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a brother, Gerald Taylor, Buffalo, New York; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Donald Taylor, 2 grandsons, Lawrence Taylor Jr. and Daniel Paul Taylor Jr., son-in-law, Richard "Rick" Bacelli, 3 brothers, Lawrence Taylor, Paul Taylor, Gordon Taylor, 2 sisters, Gwendolyn McGuire, and Vivian Vogt.

Friends may call at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Tuesday from 2 -4 & 7 -9 P.M.

Funeral and committal services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Joshua Schallert, of the United congregational- Methodist Church officiating.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post #5296.

Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery,Olean, New York.

The family suggests memorials to the donor's choice.
