Gene Paul Bean

Gene Paul Bean, age 79, of Salamanca, New York went to be with his Lord Tuesday evening, August 7, 2012 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sue Bean, of Randolph, New York.

Born on November 9, 1932 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late Leon and Dolores McAndrew Bean.

Gene began his education in a one-room schoolhouse on Erie Street, Salamanca and continued his education in the Salamanca school system.

He was a veteran of the National Guard and was awarded the Excellent Character Distinction Badge.

Mr. Bean was employed as a machine operator at the former Fancher Furniture Company in Salamanca prior to his retirement. He had previously been employed at Jamestown Table, Philadelphia Furniture, Ethan Allen, as a security guard for Olean General Hospital, Allegany State Park, Holimont Ski Resort, and currently worked in the Green Thumb Program at the Allegany rest stop.

He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, where he had served as an usher. He was an exempt member of the Salamanca Volunteer Fire Department, Holy Cross Athletic Club, and the former Order of the Moose Lodge 1002.

Surviving are: 2 sons, Douglas (Karen) Bean, Sinclairville, NY, Michael (Sue) Bean, Randolph, NY; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Leo (Yvette) Bean, Rochester, NY; 4 sisters, Mary Bowen, Pike, NY, Roberta Gorman, Binghamton, NY, Nancy Armile, Jamestown, NY, Terry Stone, Salamanca, NY; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Emily A. Bean, 3 brothers, and 5 sisters.

Private family services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.

The family suggests memorials to Homecare & Hospice.
