George W. Brown

George W. Brown, 94, of Salamanca, NY died Monday evening, December 4, 2023 at Olean General Hospital following a long illness.

Born December 21, 1928 in Thorpe Hollow, Great Valley, NY, he was the son of the late John and Lillian Mohr Brown. He was married on Memorial Day 1959 by Rev. Glen Reed to the former Shirley Bullock, who predeceased him on April 30, 2008.

Mr. Brown was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Munich, Germany during the occupation after WWII.

He had been employed with Mono Frax in Jamestown for over 31 years, retiring in 1991.

Mr. Brown attended the former Missionary & Alliance Church in Salamanca.

Surviving are: two daughters, Margo Washburn, Salamanca, NY, Lisa (James) Kinney, Bradford, PA; two sons, Gregory Washburn, Salamanca, NY, Christopher (Colleena) Brown, Salamanca, NY; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; a sister, Marion Mealey, Bradford, PA; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Debra Pierce, a granddaughter, Brooke Pierce, two sisters, Norma Bentley, Jeanne Gaynor and a brother, John Brown.

Per his wishes, there will be no visitation.

A graveside memorial service will be held in Wildwood Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296.
