Guy H. Harrison Sr.

Mr. Guy H. Harrison Sr., age 91, of Jefferson Street, Salamanca, New York died Monday evening, November 4, 2013 at his home.

Born May 3, 1922 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late Victor and Lila Millhollen Harrison. He was married July 22, 1984 in Killbuck, New York to the former Cheryl Elwell, who survives. He was predeceased by his first wife, Violet Frank Harrison in 1983.

He was a veteran of the United States Army serving with the 101st Airborne "Screamin Eagles" 325th Glider infantry where he participated in the Normandy D-Day Invasion. Earning the rank of Corporal, he served in the European Theatre throughout WWII. He had been awarded three bronze service stars and two bronze arrowhead devices.

Mr. Harrison had been employed as a Carman with the B & O Railroad in Salamanca, New York for 40 years, retiring in 1982.

He faithfully served in many capacities in his church, Valley Christian Assembly.

Mr. Harrison enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, camping, spending time with his family, and was an avid bowler.

Surviving besides his wife are: 2 daughters, Sally (Dennis) Wujastyk, Salamanca, New York, Angelina (Joshua) Creed, Salamanca, New York; 2 sons, Guy (Kim) Harrison Jr., Killbuck, New York, Charles (Melissa) Harrison, Salamanca, New York; 2 granddaughters, Amanda (Fred) Witt, Great Valley, New York, Alyssa Harrison, Killbuck, New York; 4 grandsons, Jeffrey (Lou) Harrison, Salamanca, New York, Brett (Susan) Harrison, California, Gregory (Amy Emborsky) Wujastyk, Great Valley, New York, Joshua Harrison, Killbuck, New York; 3 sisters, Thelma Meyers, Killbuck, New York, Dorothy Jacoby, Great Valley, New York, Betty Terry, Winston-Salem, N.C.; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Charles "Chuck" Harrison, Robert Harrison, and Victor Harrison.

Friends may call at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 4 – 7 P.M.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Charles Elwell of the Valley Christian Assembly Church, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Exodus Orphanage, P.O. Box 46, Olean, New York 14760.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post#5296.
