Harry S. Poole

Mr. Harry S. Poole, age 90, of Central Avenue, Salamanca, New York died Tuesday evening, April 24, 2007 at the Waters of Salmanca, New York following a brief illness.

Born on March 30, 1917 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late Wilbur and Pamela Lilley Poole. He was married on May 23, 1945 in New Jersey to the former Eva Thompson who survives.

Mr. Poole was a veteran of the U.S. Army- Air Force where he served as a mechanic with the 15th Air Force working on B-24 Bombers serving in Palestine, Egypt, North Africa, and Italy. He particiapated in the bombings of North Italy, Southern France, Southern Germany, Austria, and the Balkans. He was awarded the Distinguished Unit Badge with a Cluster, two Presidential Citations, European Theatre of Operations Ribbions with Fourteen Battle Stars.

He was employed as Engineer for the B&O Railroad for 42 years retiring in 1982.

Mr. Poole was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Aherns Post #5296, Holy Cross Athletic Club, UTU-E where he served as Secretary and Chairman of Salamanca Local. He enjoyed boating, astronomy, an he was a handyman.

Surviving besides his wife are: 2 sons, William "Butch" (Jeanne) Poole, Jamestown, New York, James Poole, Little Valley, New York; 2 daughters, Pamela (Ted) Vreeland, Tampa, Flordia, Barbara (William) Weiss, Savonna, New York; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchilren; a step sister, Edna (William) Fulton, Jamestown, New York; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Berta Robinson, 2 brothers, Dick Poole and Bud Poole.

Private visitation and funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.

Entombment will be Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
