John Chapman

Mr. John P. Chapman age 73 of River Street, Salamanca, NY, died at his home, Friday, June 11, 2010.

Born February 2, 1937 in Wayland, NY he was the son of the late Lewis and Blanche Harpole Chapman.

Mr. Chapman was a veteran of the United States Navy.

He was employed at Salamanca Lumber Company for over 10 years, retiring in 2002. In addition, he had previously been employed as a union brick layer with the construction trade in Long Island, New York and had also worked at the former York-Merritt in Ellicottville, NY.

He was a social member of the Holy Cross Athletic Club in Salamanca, NY and former member of the NYS AFL-CIO.

Mr. Chapman enjoyed the outdoors; fishing and camping. He also was an avid baseball fan.

Surviving are 3 sisters; Nancy McCray of Dansville, NY, Janice Gibboney of PA and Linda Chapman of Buffalo, NY, and 1 brother; Douglas (Judy) Chapman of Arcade, NY and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, David Chapman.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, on Tuesday from 11 AM to 1PM at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Michael Lonto of St. Marys Episcopal Church officiating, followed by military services with members of the American Legion and VFW.

Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery in Dansville, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Holy Cross Athletic Club or memorials of the donors choice.
