John Dugan Sr.

Mr. John Dugan Sr., 93, of Salamanca, New York died Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the Bath VA Medical Center, Bath, New York.

Born October 31, 1922 in McClellandtown, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John and Mary Ewart Dugan. He was married on February 14, 1946 in Washington D.C. to the former Elizabeth “Betty” Pavlock, who predeceased him on September 9, 2006.

He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge, the American Defense Service Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars.

Mr. Dugan had been employed as a Business Education teacher at Salamanca Central High School, retiring in the mid-eighties. While teaching, he coached the Rifle Club and baseball and bowling teams. He was the administrator of the DE Club and ran the school store.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, where he served as past President, and a member of the Air Force Alumni Association, where he also served as past President.

Surviving are: a son, John (Lisa) Dugan, Salamanca, NY; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Brown, a brother, George Dugan, and a sister, Caroline Bensen.

There will be no visitation.

A memorial mass will be held on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Parish with Deacon Michael Anderson officiating.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.

Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
