John Weir Sr.

Mr. John D. Weir Sr., 81, of Salamanca, NY died Monday morning, March 26, 2018 at the Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo, NY.

Born June 14, 1936 in Roaring Springs, PA, he was the son of the late Blair F. and Frances V. Nicomedus Weir. He was married on June 3, 1953 in Altoona, PA to the former Shirley Koch, who predeceased him on April 2, 2000.

He was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School, Class of 1953.

John was a lifelong baker, and began his career in Buffalo, working from 1953 – 1969, before he moved to Salamanca. He then worked as the Bakery Supervisor at St. Bonaventure University from 1969 – 1998. He then owned and operated the former Jay Dee’s Desserts in Salamanca until his retirement.

He loved the outdoors, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed woodworking and walks in Allegany State Park. He was a devoted friend and was always willing to help in any way he could. He was easy to know and hard to forget. John was very devoted to his family, and will be missed by many.

Surviving are: two daughters, Susan (Ron Stagg) Anderson, Burlington, KY, Penny (Darryl) John, Salamanca, NY; two sons, John (Joette) Weir Jr., Great Valley, NY, Michael Weir, Salamanca, NY; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon Quattrone, and a grandson, Joshua Weir.

Memorial visitation will be held at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Thursday from 1-4 p.m. followed by a memorial service 4 p.m.
