Marilyn J. Cooper

Marilyn J. Cooper, age 68, of Steamburg, New York died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 3, 2014 at Olean General Hospital, Olean, New York.

Born on March 25, 1946 in she was the daughter of the late Vernon Cooper and Mamie Dowdy Cooper-Jones. She was married on April 17, 2006 to Mr. John Cooper who survives.

Mrs. Cooper was employed by the Seneca Nation of Indians Department of Education as a Cultural Teacher for over 5 years. She had also held various administrative jobs within the Seneca Nation as well as working for the Seneca Nation Health Department in Steamburg, New York.

She was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and the Turtle Clan. She enjoyed sewing, making pies, and was an avid bingo player.

Surviving besides her husband are: 3 sons, Charles (Joanne) Spruce Sr., Salamanca, new York, Wesley Spruce, Salamanca, New York, Keith Spruce, Steamburg, New York; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a brother, Tim Jones, Salamanca, New York; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Judith Cooper and a brother, Richard Cooper.

Friends may call at the Coldspring Longhouse beginning Thursday and all day Friday.

Longhouse services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Burial will be in Hillside Haven Cemetery, Steamburg, New York.
