Mark D. Ambuske

Mark D. Ambuske, 84, of Salamanca, NY, died Friday morning, November 16, 2018 at Olean General Hospital following a short illness.

Born January 26, 1934 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Helen Bierfelt Ambuske. He was married for sixty years to the former Mary Kellogg, who predeceased him on October 25, 2018.

He had been employed the New York State Department of Transportation in Salamanca as an Equipment Operator for over ten years, retiring in 1999. Previously, he had worked on the Chessie System Railroad as a Car Inspector.

Mr. Ambuske was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, a lifetime member of the Holy Cross Athletic Club the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post # 535, the former Moose Lodge, and Elk’s Club.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and sitting out on his deck. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees.

Surviving are: three daughters, Linda Brown, Randolph, NY, Valerie (Howard) Slingerland, Westerlo, NY, Denise O’Brien, Menands, NY; three sons, Glenn Ambuske, Gregory Ambuske, both of Salamanca, NY, Darrell Ambuske, WV; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Julie Brate in 2007, four sisters, Betty Griffin, Delores Hill, Barbara Newark, and Ann Guard, four brothers, Fredrick Ambuske, Frank Ambuske, James Ambuske, and Phillip "Peter" Ambuske.

There will be no visitation.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Holy Cross Athletic Club on Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 11 am - 2 pm.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY 14779.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to HomeCare & Hospice.
