Nancy J. Nye

Nancy J. Nye, 84, of Salamanca, NY died Wednesday afternoon, December 9, 2020 at Bradford Manor following a long illness.

Born December 6, 1936 in Bradford, PA, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy Fish Scanlan. She was married in July 1958 in Las Vegas, NV to James Nye, who predeceased her in 2000.

She was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and the Beaver Clan.

She was a graduate of St. Bernard’s High School, Bradford, PA Class of 1954.

Nancy had worked in food service all of her life. She owned and operated the former Wickers Restaurant and the former Nye’s Tavern, and the former Coachman’s Inn, all in Salamanca.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, travelling, and gardening. She was a “people person”, always engaging with others. She followed the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Surviving are: a daughter, Sandra (William Sluga) Ludwick, Steamburg, NY; a son, James (Rose) Nye, Salamanca, NY; three grandsons, Clayton (Jessica) Ludwick, Wilmington, NC, Arthur Ludwick, Salamanca, NY, James (Hannah) Nye Jr., CA; three great-granddaughters, Ella Ludwick, Salamanca, NY, Kennedy and Kinsley Ludwick, both of Wilmington, NC; two great-grandsons, Preston Covert, PA, Michael Ludwick, Salamanca, NY; a brother, Robert (Shirley) Scanlan, Wadell, AZ; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Patrick Scanlan.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Monday, December 14, 2020 from 11 – 2 p.m., at which time funeral services will be held with Deacon Michael Anderson of Our Lady of Peace Parish officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association of Western New York, 6215 Sheridan Dr #100, Buffalo, NY 14221.
