Ruth Goldstein

Mr. Ruth Goldstein, age 72, of Swan Street, Salamanca, New York died early Saturday morning, June 2, 2007 at Olean General Hospital following a long illness.

Born on August 14, 1934 in New York City she was the daughter of the late Jack and Bessie Glasser. She was married on December 14, 1969 in North Bergen, New Jersey to Dr. George Goldstein who survives.

Mrs. Goldstein was a graduate of New York University earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.

She was employed with Salamanca City School District as an Elementary Teacher at both Jefferson and Seneca Schools for over ten years retiring in 1991. Previously, she had taught school in New Jersey.

Mrs. Goldstein was an avid reader and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. She liked the outdoors; walking, golfing, and skiing. She enjoyed playing mah-jongg, poker, and gaming at Casinos.

She was a member of B'Nai Israel Synagogue in Olean, New York, a member of Elkdale Country Club, Salamanca, New York and Holiday Valley, Ellicottville, New York.

Surviving besides her husband are: 2 daughters, Debbie (Michael) Schenkel, Albany, New York, Leslie (Rick) Brown, Rockaway, New Jersey; a son, Larry (Jan) Goldstein, Atlanta, Ga; 4 grandchildren; a brother, Stephen (Margaret) Glasser, New Jersey; her life long friend, Barbara Schatell, Queens, New York.

Funeral services will be held on Monday morning at 11:00 A.M. in the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York with Dr. David Shulman acting Rabbi of B'Nai Israel Synaogue, Olean, New York, officiating.

Burial will be in in B'Nai Israel Cemetery, Olean, New York.

The family will welcome visitors into their home at 47 Swan Street from Monday - Thursday.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Salamanca Public Library Memorial Fund, 155 Wildwood Ave. Salamanca, NY or to the donors choice.
