Dorothy Hamilton

Mrs. Dorothy Hamilton, age 85, of Great Valley, New York went to be with the Lord on Thursday morning (June 7, 2007) at the Olean General Hospital following a long illness.

Born on August 10, 1921 in Kinzua, Pa. she was the daughter of the late Harry & Vilona English Farrington. On August 12, 1942 she was married in Franklinville, New York to Rev. Thomas Hamilton who survives.

Dorothy grew up as a pastor's daughter in Western New York. She was a graduate of Ten Broeck Academy in Franklinville, New York. She attended Chesbrough Seminary for one year where she met her husband. Dorothy helped her husband as he pastored many churches in Western New York, the last being the Great Valley United Methodist Church for 27 years. She was the pianist/organist at every church they served and also helped in junior church.

She was an avid reader of Christian books. While her husband was a bi-vocational pastor teaching grade school, she graded papers and helped decorate his classroom. At family gatherings, she helped with the food and enjoyed playing games like badminton, board games, horseshoes, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. She was a loving, affectionate wife, mother, grandmother and was caring to all. Family meant everything to her.

Surviving besides her husband are: 2 daughters, Becky (Carle Jr.) Huffman, Dayton, Ohio, Marilyn (Robert) Miller, Tennessee; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ethel Eberman and Carolyn Baker, of Fredonia, New York; a brother, Eldon (Roxy) Farrington, Batavia, New York; several nieces and nephews.
