Fern E. Stillson

Fern E. Stillson, age 94, of Center Street, Salamanca, New York died early Sunday morning, May 10, 2015 at the Pines Health and Rehab, Olean, New York following a short illness.

Born October 26, 1920 in Randolph, New York, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Helen Marsh Brown. She was married in Randolph, New York on November 12, 1938 to Mr. Donald W. Stillson, who predeceased her in 1996.

She attended Randolph Central School.

Mrs. Stillson was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535 and had served at different times as their chaplain. She was known to have sold the poppies during their American Legion Annual Poppy Drive. She was named Auxiliary Member of the Year in 1976. Fern will be remembered for working almost every luncheon, party, or event the American Legion Post held.

Surviving are: a daughter, Shirley (Norman Mattison) Harmon, Celeron, NY; two sons, USAF retired Leland (Babe) Stillson, Russell, PA, USMC retired Wayne (Terri) Stillson, Jacksonville, NC; six grandchildren, Chris (Monica) O’Brien, Great Valley, NY, Patty (Charles) Smith, Great Valley, NY, Laurie Holm, Kerrville, TX, Scott Stillson, Warren, PA, Wayne Stillson Jr., St. Petersburg, FL, Tammy Stillson, Roxboro, NC; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Rodney Brown and Edward Brown, both of Randolph, NY; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Clayton Brown and Donald Brown.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Wednesday, May 13 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Leslie Lathan officiating.

Burial will be in Randolph Cemetery, Randolph, New York.
