Howard Jackson

Mr. Howard E. Jackson, age 87, of State Park Avenue, Salamanca, NY died Wednesday morning, March 14, 2012 at Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY.

Born on November 15, 1924 in Salamanca, NY he was the son of the late Arthur and Ina Woods Jackson. He was married on June 28, 1947 to the former Betty Johnson who survives.

Mr. Jackson was a veteran of the US Army serving with the 913 Army Engineers in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre during WWII. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, the Good conduct Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal.

He retired from the Cattaraugus County Refuse Department in 1983. Previously, he had been employed at Fitzpatrick & Weller, the Town of Salamanca where he operated a snow plow, Fenton Delivery, McKay & McCloud, and Boss-Linco Freight.

Surviving besides his wife are: 2 daughters, Bedelia "Bea" (Timothy) Jadlowski, Salamanca, NY, Nancy Austin, Salamanca, NY; 6 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Jeffrey Thurston and a brother, William "Stonewall" Jackson.

Friends may call on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.

Funeral and committal services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday afternoon at 1 P..M. with Winfield Bowen, pastor of the Red House Memorial Chapel, officiating.

Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.

Full military honors will be conducted by member of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post #5296.

The family suggests memorials to the Olean General Hospital Memorial Fund.
