James C. Magara Sr.

Mr. James C. Magara Sr., age 70, of 28 Chestnut Street, Salamanca, New York died suddenly, Thursday, December 20, 2007 at Olean General Hospital, Olean, New York.

Born on April 9, 1937 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late Walter and Frances Kozlowki Magara.

Mr. Magara was employed by the N.Y.S. Department of Transportation on the Bridge Crew for over 28 years prior to his retirement in 1992. Later he ran the Senior Citizens Disposal with his brother, Frank Magara.

He was a member of the Holy Cross Athletic Club, a social member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post #5296 and the American Legion Hughes Skiba Post #535, the Salamanca Exempt Fireman. He enjoyed bowing and card playing.

Surviving are: 2 sons, James C. (Jodi) Magara Jr., Limestone, New York, Christopher (Susan) Magara, 41 Ambuske St., Salamanca, New York; 8 grandchildren, Phillip McLaughlin, Garrett McLaughlin, Kyle McLaughlin, Kortney Magara, all of Limestone, New York, Emmalyn Magara, Tristan Magara, Abbigail Magara, Arielle Haas-Magara, all of Salamanca, New York; 3 sisters, Mrs. Rosemary (Joe) Kennedy, Tennessee, Mrs. Betty (Bill) Sluga, Elkdale, New York, Shirley Magara, Great Valley, New York; 2 brothers, Walter Magara, Jamestown, New York, Raymond (Joan London) Magara, Allegany, New York; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Frank Magara, Edward Magara, 2 sisters, Catherine McManus and Agnes Gostowski.

Friends may call at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Saturday, December 22, 2007 from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at which time funeral services will be held with Rev. Piotr Zaczynski, pastor of Holy Cross/St. Patrick's Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
