John Brown

Mr. John Brown, age 82, of East State Street, Salamanca, New York died Thursday morning, November 19, 2009 at Bradford Ecumenical Home, Bradford, Pa.

Born on May 3, 1927 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late John and Lillian Mohr Brown. He was married on July 14, 1952 to the former Dolores J. Ewing who predeceased him on March 9, 2009.

Mr. Brown was a veteran of U.S. Army serving during WWII in the European Theatre.

He had been employed with Carborundum (B.P.) in Falconer, New York for over 30 years retiring in 1989. He had previously been employed at the former B. & O. Railroad.

Mr. Brown was a dedicated worker and family man. He was a former member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. He loved to work on cars and tinker with electronics and small engines. He also enjoyed working in his vegetable garden. He loved having pet dogs throughout his life. In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors.

Surviving are: 3 sons, John Brown Jr., James Brown, Jerry Brown, all of Salamanca, New York; 3 sisters, Norma Bentley, Bradford, Pa., Marian Meeley, Bradford, Pa., Jeanne Gaynor, Mountaintop, Pa.; a brother, George Brown, Salamanca, New York. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Connie Brown.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday morning at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Clara Wilder, of the Alma Methodist Church, Alma, New York. Full military honors will be conducted at the funeral by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post #5296 Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
