Leonard A. Skudlarek

Leonard A. Skudlarek, age 81, of North State Street,Salamanca, New York died Saturday (January 19, 2008) at Olean General Hospital, Olean, New York.

Born November 18, 1926 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late Walter and Eleanor Smith Skudlarek. He was married in the Cathedral of Madeleine in Salt Lake City UT on May 29, 1954 to the former Barbara Phearsdorf who survives

Mr. Skudlarek was a graduate of St. Patricks Elementary School Class of 1940, Salamanca High School Class of 1944 and Bryant & Stratton Class of 1949.

A veteran of the United States Navy, Mr. Skudlarek served as a Seaman First Class V6 during World War II. He was awarded the American Theater Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

He was employed as a mail carrier in Salamanca New York for twenty-eight years retiring on October 30, 1987.

Mr. Skudlarek was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish (St. Patricks), and the Veterans of Foreign War John Ahrens Post # 5296. He was a former member of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post # 535, Holy Cross Athletic Club, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge # 1002, Salamanca See-Saws Club where he served as past treasurer, Jerry & Marys Strolling Vine Dance Club, past president of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Salamanca Branch. He enjoyed bowling with the Phearsdorf Trucking team, golfing with his family, and horseshoes.

Surviving besides his wife are four daughters Cheryl (Bruce) Deboy, Salamanca,NY Anne (Thomas) Ciolek, Allegany, NY, Debra (Troy Westfall) Conklin, Salamanca,NY, Lori (Kenneth) Meierjurgen, Ypsilanti, MI, one son Mr. Joel Skudlarek, Salamanca, NY; ten grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael)Perryman Farmington, NY, Angela Nutt, Olean, NY, Melanie Ciolek, Williamsville, NY, Mark Ciolek, Allegany, NY, Michelle Ciolek, Allegany, NY, Petty Officer 2nd class Jonathan (Kelli) Conklin, Gulfport, MS, Dennis (Christina) Conklin, East Otto, NY, Leeanne Meierjurgen,Kristine Meierjurgen,Kenneth Meierjurgen, all of Ypsilanti, MI, two step-grandchildren, Loagan Westfall, Salamanca, NY, Staff Sgt. Richard DeBoy, Washington, DC, six great-grandchildren, Morgan Nutt, Olean,NY, Victoria Mary Ciolek, Williamsville, NY, Cali Conklin , Gulfport MS, Lita Conklin East Otto, NY, Gracie Conklin, East Otto, NY, and William Wiley,several nieces and nephews

Mr. Skudlarek was predeceased by four brothers Walter Skudlarek, Edward Skudlarek, Donald Skudlarek, and Paul Skudlarek,

Friends may call on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.

A mass of christian burial will be held on Tuesday(January 22, 2007) at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of Peace (St. Patricks) church with the Rev Piotr Zaczinski, pastor as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Patricks Cemetery, Randolph, New York

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes Skiba Post #535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John Ahrens Post # 5296
