Leonard Weatherly

Leonard Weatherly, age 89, of Swan Street, Salamanca, New York, died Sunday afternoon, December 1, 2013 at the Lutheran Home in Jamestown, New York following a short illness.

Born February 11, 1924, he was the son of the late Daniel and Georgia McCabe Weatherly. He was married at the First Baptist Church in Salamanca, New York on December 27, 1951 to the late Shirley A. Booth Weatherly, who predeceased him in 2013.

Mr. Weatherly was a graduate of Salamanca High School.

With his wife, he owned and operated Leonard's Grocery Store on Swan Street in Salamanca for over 40 years, retiring in 1984.

He was a lifetime Mason and a former member of the Cattaraugus Lodge #239, now recognized as Great Valley Lodge #1178 F&AM. He enjoyed being with his family and was an avid reader and sports enthusiast. He was awarded the Silver Beau Award in December 2008 from the Salamanca Chamber of Commerce in recognition of his valuable contributions to the Salamanca Community.

Surviving are: 1 son, Daniel (Barbara) Weatherly, Overland Park, KS; 3 daughters, Elizabeth Weatherly, North East, PA, Carol (Jim Johnson) Ellis, Salamanca, NY, and Nancy (Michael) Kaye, Warren, PA; seven grandchildren, Megan, Jordan, L.J., Paul Thomas, Amanda, Andrew, and Amy; three great-grandchildren, Giovanni, Amilia, and Miles; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY, on Friday, December 6, 2013 from 6 – 8 p.m., and Saturday, December 7 from 1 – 2 p.m., with funeral services held immediately following. Rev. David S. Rumfeldt, pastor of the Lutheran Home, Jamestown, NY will preside over the service.

Burial will be in Crawford Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
