P. Douglas Wallquist

Mr. P. Douglas Wallquist, age 86, formerly of 103 Kent Blvd., Salamanca, New York died Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at the home of his daughter-in-law, Connie Wallquist, Lakewood, New York.

Born May 29, 1925 in Kane, PA, he was the son of the late C. Paul and Arlene Anderson Wallquist. He was married at the former People's Methodist Church on June 24, 1949 to the former Jeanne Barnhart who predeceased him on September 12, 2002.

Mr. Wallquist was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. On February 14, 1943 he enlisted in the Aviation Cadet Program from which he graduated on December 23, 1944. He was a pilot and flew B-17's. He separated from active duty on April 6, 1946. He remained with the Air Force Reserves serving with the 9307th Squadron and the 914th Civil Engineering Squadron out of Niagara Falls, New York until his retirement on May 28, 1985 as a Chief Master Sgt.

He was employed as a carpeneter at Allegany State Park for 20 years, retiring in 1990. Prior to his employment at the Allegany State Park, he was the owner, vice president, and secretary of C & D Construction and later the Salamanca Builders Inc.

Mr. Wallquist served his carpentry apprenticeship through Benz Engineering.

He was a member of the United Congregational Methodist Church, charter member of the Salamanca Lions Club, where he held various offices, the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535, United Brotherhood of Carpeneters & Joiners Local #1552 where he served as past president, life member of the Air Force Seargant's Association.

Surviving are: a daughter-in-law, Connie Walquist, Lakewood, New York; 2 grandchildren; 1 sister, Ann Louise Hilson, Cheyenne, Wyoming.

He was predeceased by his son, Stephen Wallquist on October 24, 2009.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 9th at 11 a.m. in the United Congregational Methodist Church, with Pastor Joshua Schallert officiating.

Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the United Congreagational Methodist Church or the donor’s choice.
