William Dundon

Mr. William Dundon, age 92, formerly of 33 Carrollton Avenue, Salamanca, New York and Valley View Estates, Allegany, New York died early Friday morning, June 1, 2012 at The Pines of Olean following a brief illness.

Born on November 19, 1919 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late John & Sara Rochford Dundon. He was married in the former St. Patrick's Church in Salamanca, New York on July 13, 1946 to the former Phoebe Rice who predeceased him on October 3, 2006.

Mr. Dundon was a veteran of U.S. Army serving in the European Theatre during WWII. He was awarded the American Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

He was employed by the U.S. Post Office in Salamanca, New York for 36 years prior to his retirement in 1978.

Mr. Dundon was a member of John The Baptist Church/St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany, New York, the former St. Patrick's Church in Salamanca, New York, the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post #5296, the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535, the Holy Cross Athletic Club, the former Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1002, the Salamanca Booster Club, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Elkdale Country Club. He enjoyed golfing.

Surviving are: 3 daughters, Nan Blackhall, Alexandria, VA, Shelley (John) Jones, Allegany, New York, Mary Dundon, Fairfax, VA; a son, John (Rebecca) Dundon, Ft. Wayne, Indiana; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Mary Coletta McKnight and Geraldine Flanigan.

Friends may call at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Monday from 4-7 P.M.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Our Lady of Peace Parish on Tuesday morning, June 5, 2012 at 9 AM with Rev. Patrick Melfi, pastor, as celebrant.

Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
