Gary Newark

Gary Newark, 74, of Salamanca, NY, died Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Olean General Hospital as the result of injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident.

Born June 1, 1950 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Jack and Rita Lee Newark. He was married on July 25, 1998 in Holy Cross RC Church to the love of his life, the former Denise Matecki, who predeceased him in 2020.

He was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1969.

Gary had been employed as a custodial engineer with the Salamanca Central School System for over 20 years prior to his retirement. Previously, he had worked for 15 years at Seneca Crafts.

He enjoyed his annual trips to Lancaster, PA and Berlin, OH with Denise and his long rides with his dog, Serenity and his good friend, George. He looked forward to stopping in for a cold beverage and sharing stories in Fish’s Garage.

Surviving are: his close cousin, Sharon Weese, McCordsville, IN; brother-in-law, Robert (Cindy) Matecki, Erie, PA; close nephews, Adam Kraut, Zachary (Abbey Barnett) Golis, Levi Armstrong, Alex Armstrong; nieces, Shayla Armstrong, Cindy Reacher; a great-nephew, Arlo James Golis; a great-niece, Ann Aurora; dear friends, Dan and Brenda Fish, George DeBoy, Stan Pezon, Laurie Hunt, all of Salamanca, NY; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Friday, May 30, 2025 from 11am – 1pm, at which time funeral services will be held with Deacon Michael Anderson officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.
