William P. Jones

William Paul Jones, 75, of Center Road, Salamanca, NY died Sunday, June 1, 2025 at home following a long illness.

Born February 13, 1950 in Salamanca, NY, he was adopted by Helia and Sarah Bowen Jones.

He was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and of the Bear Clan.

He was a graduate of Salamanca High School Class of 1970.

Mr. Jones was a veteran of the United States Army, serving with C Company 1/501st INF-VN from 1970-1972 and was stationed in Vietnam where he was critically wounded. He earned the Warriors Medal of Valor (Native American Nations of the USA), New York State Conspicuous Award Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm Leaf Unit Citation, Combat Infantrymen’s Badge with Blue Cord & Background, Purple Heart Medal, and the Army Good Conduct Medal.

He was a member of the American Legion Iroquois Post 1587, Irving, NY and was also associated with the 101st Airborne Division Association, Disabled American Veterans, the National Amputation Foundation, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296.

Honoring his wishes, there will be no visitation.

A graveside service will be held at Hillside Haven Cemetery, Steamburg, NY on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 9am with Pastor Wally Mapes officiating.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Iroquois Post 1587, Irving, NY.
